GOD'S PRESCRIPTION FOR HEALTH

WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT MY BODY

I Cor. 6:12-20

1. God Expects Me To Manage My Body

1 Cor. 6:12-13a (NIV)"Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me - but I will not be mastered by anything. Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food - but God will destroy both

2. My Body Is God’s Property

1 Cor. 6:13b (NIV)"The body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord and the Lord for the body."

3. My Body Will Be Resurrected after I die

1 Cor. 6:14 (NIV) "By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also

MISTAKES WE MAKE

  • We rely on will power instead of God’s Power
  • We have the wrong motivation
  • We try to change on our own

4. My Body is Connected to the Body of Christ

I Cor. 6:15a & 18 (NIV) "Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? ...Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body."

5. The Holy Spirit Lives In My Body

1 Cor. 6:19(NIV)"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? "

6. Jesus Bought My Body On The Cross

1 Cor. 6:20 (N1V)"You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

Romans 12:1 (NIV)"I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship."

GOD’S PRESCRIPTION FOR HEALTH

Memory Verse: Psalm 119:73 (LB) You made my body, Lord; now give me sense to heed your laws."

Deut. 32:47 (NLT)"These instructions are not mere words—they are your life! By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land..."

Prov. 3:1-10 (NIV)"Keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity... Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with the first part of your wealth, the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing."

1. Trusting God IS GOOD FOR MY HEALTH

Psalm 116:7 (NCV)"I said to myself "Relax, because the Lord takes care of you." "

3. Having Fun IS GOOD FOR MY HEALTH

Prov. 17:22 (NIV)"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."

HOW REPENTANCE BRINGS RENEWAL

2 Chronicles 29-30

Introduction:  Repentance means to change your mind.

Why is Repentance not understood?

1. The appeal of modern evangelism.

The Gospel must bring the conviction of sin before it can be the good news of redemption.

2. Unwilling or unable to accept the reality for personal sin.

God’s Steps Towards Renewal

1. I must confess any known sin to God

2. I must ask forgiveness of any I have wronged.

3. I must put away doubtful habits.

4. I must obey the Holy Spirit promptly.

5. I must share what God is doing in me with others.

Hezekiah did these things.

The Call of Repentance

1. Hands us a challenge.

2 Chronicles 30:9 –If you return to the land, then your brothers and your children will be shown compassion.

2. Gives us a choice.

2 Chronicles 30:11 – Some humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.

3. Asks us to change.

4. Allows us to (Vs 13-23) celebrate.

The people were (2 Chronicles 30:20) heard.

The people were (2 Chronicles 30:22) encouraged.

The people were (2 Chronicles 30:22) enlightened.

The people were (2 Chronicles 30:27) blessed

December 28 2014 Building Confidence In Prayer

Building Confidence in Prayer

Luke 5:16 – But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Seven Principles Towards Confidence In Prayer:

1. Make sure all known sin is confessed.

Psalm 68:18 – If I regard sin in my heart the Lord will not hear me.

Isaiah 59:1-2 – Your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.

Principle to live by: Before I pray for change in my circumstances, I should pray for a change in character.

James 5:16 – The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

2. Keep a forgiving spirit towards others.

Principle: A forgiving spirit is not an act, it’s an attitude.

Matthew 5:23-24 – First go and be reconciled to your brother.

3. Keep a surrendered will at all times.

James 4:3 – You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly.

Principle to live by: If God lays a burden on our heart, He also purposes to grant it.

Psalm 33:13 – From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind.

Principle: When God sees me He also sees the crowd and does what’s best for the whole group.

4. Understand God’s Sovereignty.

Principle to live by: I must accept the Sovereignty of God in my life of prayer.

5. I must have faith.

James 1:5 – But let him ask in faith, with no doubting for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

Matthew 9:29 – According to your faith it will be done unto you.

Matthew 17:20 – If your faith is as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain move from here to there and it will.

Principle: To make prayer a force, I must look for question marks in my life.

6. I must have persistence.

Jacob
Ask, Seek, Knock

Principle: Persistence in prayer does not change God, it changes me.

7. Put action with your prayers.

James 2:14 – Faith without action is dead.

Principle: My great need is not faith and works, but faith that works.
