April 2 2017 The Gift Of Love In The Deeper Life

THE GIFT OF LOVE IN THE DEEPER LIFE

Mark 12:41-44

Verse 41-42 - Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the Temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts, but a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.

Three Lessons on The Deeper Life

1. Her gift was a symbol of her faith.

Verse 42 - The poor widow woman came.

Matt. 6:33 - But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

2. Her gift was sacrificial.

Verse 44 - But she, out of her poverty, put in everything, all she had to live on.

Romans 12:1-2 - I beseech you therefore brethren that you present your bodies a living sacrifice unto God.

3. Her gift was also love.

Matt. 22:36-37 - Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law? Jesus replied, love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.

Three Practical Thoughts on The Deeper Life

1. Only the gift that cost really counts.

II Samuel 24:24 - Neither will I offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.

2. Our privacy is a gift to give.

Paul said - We have been bought with a price.

3. Being personal with someone else.

August 10 2014 Love - The Highest Quality Of The Church And Life

Love: The Highest Quality Of The Church And Life

Matthew 22:36-39 - “Which is the most important command?” Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. 'This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: 'Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.”

THREE QUALITIES OF LOVE

I. THE BEST USE OF LIFE IS LOVE.

FOUR REASONS WHY

1 John 4:8 - “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

1. Love validates my faith.

1 John 4:20 - “If we say we love God, but hate others, we are liars. For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love others, whom we have seen.”

2. Love integrates my life.

Colossians 3:14 - “Love is more important than anything else, it is what ties everything completely together.”

3. Love shows the set of our heart.

1 Peter 4:8 - “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.”

4. Love reverberates forever.

1 Corinthians 13:13 - “And now these three remain, faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.”

2 Corinthians 13:3 - “No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.”

II. THE BEST EXPRESSION OF LOVE IS TIME.

1 John 3:18 - “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.”

Galatians 5:6 - “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

Ephesians 5:2 - “Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins.”

III. THE BEST TIME TO LOVE IS NOW.

Galatians 6:10 – “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

Ephesians 5:16 - “Making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.”

Proverbs 3:27 -28 - “Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it. Never tell you neighbors to wait until tomorrow if you can help them now.”

1 Corinthians 14:1 - “Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire love. Make it your aim, your great quest.”

June 15 2014 Living A No Regrets Life

God On Film: Living A No Regrets Life

“I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.” - Philippians 3:13-14

HOW TO LIVE A NO-REGRETS LIFE

1. LOOK FOR GOD INTENTIONALLY.

Memory Verse: “‘When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me,’ says the Lord.” - Jeremiah 29:13-14

(Jesus) “Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.” - Matthew 7:7-8

2. LISTEN TO GOD INTENTLY.

“I listen carefully to what God the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his people, his faithful ones.” - Psalm 85:8

“They stumble because they do not listen to God’s word or obey it.” - 1 Peter 2:8

“If you need wisdom - if you want to know what God wants you to do - ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.” - James 1:5

3. LIVE FOR GOD INTENSELY.

(Jesus) “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:36-40

(Jesus) “If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life.” - Mark 8:35

(Jesus) “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” - John 10:10

December 8 2013 Showing I Care For My Neighbors

Showing I Care For My Neighbors

(Open Before Christmas: Part 2)

(Jesus) “I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” Matthew 25:40

“‘Teacher, of all the commandments, which is the most important?’ Jesus replied, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.’” Matthew 22:36-40

“And who is my neighbor?” — Luke 10:29b

My Neighbor: SOMEONE WHO IS ON MY WAY.

FOUR STEPS TO LOVING MY NEIGHBOR

1. Ask GOD FOR A COMPASSIONATE HEART

“You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” — Luke 6:36

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.” — Psalm 139:23

2. Show GENUINE INTEREST.

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” — Romans 12:10

3. Be ALERT TO NEEDS.

“Don't be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others - ignoring God - harvests a crop of weeds. All he'll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God's Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.” — Galatians 6:7-8

“Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6

4. Respond WITH COMPASSIONATE ACTION.

“Dear brothers and sisters, what's the use of saying you have faith if you don't prove it by your actions? That kind of faith can't save anyone. Suppose you see a brother or sister who needs food or clothing, and you say, ‘Well, good-bye and God bless you; stay warm and eat well’ – but then you don't give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show itself by good deeds is no faith at all – it is dead and useless.” James 2:14-17

"Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." Matthew 7:12

Memory Verse: “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." — John 13:35
