BUILDING HOMES TO LAST
Nehemiah 3: 10, 23, 29 & 30
They repaired over against his house.

1.  God intends for our homes to build a wall of prayer.
Verse 10: - Jedaiah made repairs beside his house.

HOW TO BUILD IT

* Select a specific time.

* Choose a special place.

Luke 22:39 - Jesus left the city and went, as He usually did, to the Mount of Olives to pray.
Gal. 6:9 - Let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after awhile we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.

2.  Home needs God’s protection.
Verse 23: - After him, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs in front of their house.

STORMS THAT CAN COME
* Change.

* Failure.

HOW TO BUILD PROTECTION
* Put Christ first in your life.

* Live in obedience to Christ.

Matt. 6:33 - Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.
John 15:4 - Jesus said remain in Me and I will remain in you.

3.  We must build the wall of integrity.
Verse 29: - Zadok (son of Immer) also rebuilt the wall next to his own house.

* Soundness in our relationships.

* Sound character.

Isa. 38:19 - One generation makes known your faithfulness to the next.

4.  The home must build a wall of ministry.
Verse 30: - Meshullam, son of Berekiah, built next to his own house.
I Cor. 16:15 - Stephanas and his family were the first to become Christians in Greece, and they are spending their lives helping and serving Christians everywhere.
Acts 16:33 - The whole family was filled with joy because they had come to believe God.

5.  The home is meant to be a place of fun.
Ecc. 9:9 - Enjoy life with your wife whom you love.
Prov. 5:18 - Be happy with your wife and find joy with the girl you married.
Psalm 127:3 - Children are a gift of God.

5 Ingredients For A Lasting Love

1.  Respect.
Ephesians 5:33 - Every husband must love his wire as himself and every wife must respect her husband.

1 Peter 3:7 - Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect.

2.  Responsibility.
Philippians 2:4-5 - Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others.  Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.

3.  Recreation.
Ecclesiastes 9:9 - Enjoy life with the woman you love.

4.  Romance.
Proverbs 3:21, 23 - Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up, an unloved woman who is married.

Proverbs 5:18-19 - Rejoice in your wife.  Let her charms and tender embrace satisfy you.  Let her love alone fill you with delight.

5.  Resolve.
Malachi 2:15 -  Has not the Lord made you one in body and spirit?  So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

Proverbs 4:23 - Above all else, guard your affections, for they influence everything else in your life.

Psalm 127:1 - Unless the Lord builds the house, it’s builders labor in vain.

How To Stay Pure In A Polluted World

1. Make a commitment to God’s standard.
Proverbs 119:9 - How can anyone keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word.

2. Never consider yourself above temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:12 - So be careful if you are thinking, oh I would never behave like that. Let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin.
Proverbs 16:19 - Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

3. Keep a close watch on your Spiritual temperature.
Proverbs 4:23 - Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
1 Corinthians 9:22 - I discipline my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

4. Maintain your marriage.
Solomon 1:6 - They made me take care of other’s vineyards while my own vineyard I have neglected.
Proverbs 5:15-21 - Drink water from your own cistern.

7 Suggestions
• Involve mate in life, work
• Keep reminders of family around
• Keep lines of communication open
• When attracted, redirect it towards your mate
• Date your mate
• Make much of your marriage in public
• Don’t discuss your marriage problems with someone of the opposite sex

5. Develop healthy outlets for emotional energy.
Romans 12:21 - Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

6. Guard your mind.
James 1:14-15 - Sin begins with the desire and then when it’s conceived it brings forth sin and then when it is finished, brings forth death.

7. Remind yourself of damaging consequences.
James 1:15 - Sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

8. Take necessary precautions.
Matthew 26:41 - (Jesus says) watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.

1 Peter 5:8 - Be careful, watch out for attacks from satan, your great enemy. He prowls around like a hungry, roaring lion looking for some victim to tear apart.

James 1:12 - Blessed is the man who perseveres under temptation, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the victor’s crown, the life God promised to those who love Him.

Genesis 2:18 & 24: The Lord God said, it is not good for man to be
alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. Therefore, a man will
leave his father and mother and be united to his wife.

GOD’S PURPOSE FOR THE FAMILY

I. A family is a shelter in the storm.
Proverbs 14:26 - reverence for the Lord gives a man deep strength,
his children have a place of refuge and security.

TYPES OF STORMS

1. change
2. failure
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 -Two are better than one, if one of them falls
down the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls,
it’s just too bad because there’s no one to help him.
3. rejection
Ecclesiastes 4:12 - One standing alone can be attacked and
defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.
My Response:

II. A family is a learning center for life.
Psalm 144:12 - May our sons in their youth be like plants that grow
up strong.
Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, don’t exasperate your children, instead
bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Luke 2:52 - Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with
God and with man.

Things you always leave home with:
1. Relationships
2. Character
3. Values

Deuteronomy 6:6-7- These commandments, impress them upon
your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when
you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.

III. A family is a place to play.

girl you married.

IV. A family is a launching pad for ministry.
I Corinthians 16:15 - Stephanas and his family were the first to
become Christians in Greece and they are spending their lives
helping and serving Christians everywhere.
Acts 16:33 - The whole family was filled with joy because they had
come to believe in God.
Romans 12:13 - When God’s children are in need, help them out!
Get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner, or if they
need lodging for the night.

John 1:12 - All who received Him, He gave the right to become
children of God.
